Mission Statement

Do, do, do

Change requires actions. Finland, especially the Helsinki Metropolitan Region, is a unique environment for getting things done. We – companies, cities, research organisations, universities and the Finnish government – are committed to achieving remarkable results. Our union of all the important actors is unique in the world.

We bring all the visionaries together in the changes that matter, to build the solutions to cities’ challenges and create new business.

Change the world

The concepts developed in the Helsinki region will be exported worldwide. This will lead to a better quality of life and the growth of carbon positive solutions where they are adopted.

We will begin with changes within and across five sectors with significant impact: We will be the leaders showing the way forward while we work towards the world’s most attractive emission-free mobility; the world’s most resource wise citizens, the world’s smartest urban energy, and the world’s leading circular economy city, which is a world leader in built environments with a positive environmental impact.

Prosper

Saving the world is good business. We will make bold and visionary solutions in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The actions developed in the area, for example, projects, technologies, services and concepts can be exported to world cities. Businesses making the changes can use the solutions as their references globally.

Helsinki is an ideal place to live for a person like me: a keen sailor, runner and city life lover. Everything is close by, and one doesn’t need to own a car. The practical craziness of Finns and a culture of doing things makes it possible for us to change the world. As long as we believe in it ourselves.

The metropolitan area is a great platform for new solutions because it’s simultaneously sufficiently big and small. We have long traditions of cooperation between different actors, a lot of technological know-how and a diverse field of businesses. I love solving complex, challenging and significant problems together with others, even if just one small thing at a time. That’s how the world becomes a better place.

A new, active attitude has taken over the metropolitan area. People are no longer waiting for others to solve challenges but are boldly taking charge of the changes themselves. Change happens when political ambitions, business objectives and cities’ strategies all have the same goal. Co-creation isn’t just about coming up with ideas together but also sharpening common goals, creating shared rules and taking responsibility for the results.
